Resin bound surfacing for garages and forecourts, built to take real vehicle use.
Cars are heavy, oily and parked in the same spot every day. The surface they sit on needs more than good looks. We build vehicle-rated resin bound systems with the right depth, the right base and the right aggregate so they keep performing year after year — and still look like the day we left.
Built for vehicles, finished like a driveway
A garage approach or showroom forecourt has to take vehicles, fluids and constant turning movements. The good news: with the right specification, resin bound handles it well — and looks far better than tarmac while doing so.
Vehicle-rated build-up
Driveable areas go down at 18mm minimum on a properly engineered base — typically open-graded asphalt or freshly laid concrete with the right falls. Forecourts taking heavier vehicles get specified up.
Oil and fuel tolerant
The resin is largely unaffected by oil drips, brake fluid and petrol spills. Dropped fluids should be cleaned off promptly, but they don't damage the binder.
Power-wash friendly
Jet-wash on a fan setting clears everything from leaves to tyre rubber to general grime. There are no joints for muck to settle into.
Permeable — usually a planning win
Domestic forecourts over 5m² generally need to drain on-site or have planning approval. Resin bound is SUDS-compliant by default, which keeps the planners happy.
No standing water, no ice patches
Because rain drains through rather than pooling, you don't get the icy puddle by the garage door every January morning.
Sharp lines and tidy edging
We detail to existing thresholds, manhole covers, garage door lines and brick edging properly. The finish reads as deliberate, not a slab dropped over the top.
What clients want to know first.
Can you lay resin straight onto my existing concrete or tarmac?
Yes, in most cases. If the base is sound, structurally stable and falls correctly, we prime and overlay. If it's cracking, sinking or holding water, we fix that first — laying over a failing base is a waste of money and we won't do it.
What about oil drips from the car?
Dropped oil sits on the surface rather than soaking in, and the binder isn't damaged by typical garage fluids. Wipe up fresh spills the same day and the area cleans up to look as good as new. Long-term oil pooling is bad for any surface — that's a parking habit fix, not a material issue.
Will heavy vehicles or work vans crack it?
On a properly built base, no. The base does most of the structural work; the resin layer is the wear surface. We specify base depth and aggregate grading based on what will be parked or driven on it — including occasional heavier vehicles like delivery vans or boats on trailers.
How long until I can drive on it?
Foot traffic the next day; vehicles after 24-48 hours depending on weather and aggregate choice. We'll give you specific timings before we leave site so you can plan around it.
Can it match the rest of my driveway?
Yes. We run the same aggregate blend through both the driveway and the garage approach so the whole area reads as one continuous surface. That's far more attractive than a sudden change of material at the garage door.
Tones that disguise the day-to-day reality of vehicle traffic.
Where cars live, lighter colours show every drip and tyre mark. We usually recommend mid-to-darker greys for garages and forecourts — they hide wear and look professional all year.
Water away from the threshold.
A resin bound forecourt is a fully permeable system. Rainwater passes through the aggregate, soaks down through the open-graded sub-base and dissipates back to ground — helping reduce water sheeting toward the garage door, ponding around vehicles or pushing into the property.
- 01
Resin bound layer
Natural aggregate is mixed with clear resin, leaving small voids between the stones so water can pass through.
- 02
Open-grade sub-base
A free-draining stone layer supports the surface while allowing rainwater to move down quickly.
- 03
Existing ground
Water disperses naturally into the soil below, helping support SuDS-friendly drainage.
| Standard forecourt | Resin bound forecourt |
|---|---|
| Water runs off | Water drains through |
| Puddles can form | Helps reduce pooling |
| May need extra drainage | Can support SuDS compliance |
| Harder visual finish | Smooth decorative finish |
Want a surface that drains properly?
