Pool Surrounds & Overlays

A pool deck that's safe underfoot and easy on the eye.

The area around a swimming pool gets wet, hot and busy. Resin bound surfacing handles all three: it drains freely, stays cooler than dark slabs, and gives you a textured finish you can walk on safely without losing the clean, modern look you actually want.

Why resin bound around water

Slabs crack. Concrete gets slippery. Tarmac softens in summer. Resin bound sits in a different category — and we've spent years installing it around private pools, spa decks and overlaying tired surrounds.

Slip resistant when wet

The exposed aggregate texture gives proper grip in bare feet, even with water or sun cream around. We can adjust the grade for higher slip resistance where needed.

Cooler than dark stone

Lighter aggregate blends reflect sunlight rather than absorbing it. A meaningful difference when guests are walking poolside on a 30°C afternoon.

Drains naturally

Splash-out and rain pass straight through into the sub-base instead of pooling on the surface — important for safety and for keeping debris out of the water.

UV stable

We use UV-stable resin systems specifically because chlorine and sunlight degrade lesser products. Your colour holds, year after year.

Chlorine and salt tolerant

Suitable for chlorinated pools, salt-water systems and hot tubs. Spills wipe off; the resin doesn't react with normal pool chemistry.

Overlay friendly

If your existing concrete or paving is sound, we can often overlay at 18-22mm. No demolition, no skip hire, far less mess and disruption.

Common Questions

Things people usually ask before booking.

Will it get hot enough to burn my kids' feet?

Lighter aggregate blends — anything in the cream, beige or off-white range — stay noticeably cooler than dark slate or anthracite paving. Around a pool we usually steer clients toward the lighter family for that reason. We can show you sample boards in direct sunlight at the site visit.

Can you lay over our existing concrete pool surround?

Often yes. If the existing slab is sound, level and free of major cracking, we can prime and overlay at around 18-22mm. If it's failing, we'll tell you straight — there's no point sitting a quality surface on a base that's about to move.

Is it safe with pool chemicals and salt water?

The resin system we use is chemically stable with chlorine, salt and bromine. Splashes and treatments don't damage it. We do recommend rinsing pool chemical spills off rather than leaving them to sit, same as you would on any surface.

What about drainage?

Resin bound is permeable by design. Water drains through the surface into the sub-base, so you don't get standing water around the pool edge. That's both a safety win and a cleanliness win.

How long does the install take?

A typical residential pool surround takes 2-4 days depending on size and whether we're laying fresh or overlaying. The surface is walkable the next morning and ready for furniture and use within 24-48 hours.

Pool Surround Picks

Lighter blends that stay cooler underfoot.

Around a pool we lean toward soft, reflective tones. They handle direct sun better and they sit comfortably with garden planting, decking and natural stone copings.

How Resin Bound Permeability Works

Splash water clears fast.

Around a pool, standing water is a slip hazard and a quick path to algae and staining. Resin bound surrounds drain through the bound aggregate and into the open sub-base, helping splash-out and rain clear away — leaving a drier, grippier surface for bare feet.

  1. 01

    Resin bound layer

Natural aggregate is mixed with clear resin, leaving small voids between the stones so water can pass through.

  2. 02

    Open-grade sub-base

A free-draining stone layer supports the surface while allowing rainwater to move down quickly.

  3. 03

    Existing ground

Water disperses naturally into the soil below, helping support SuDS-friendly drainage.
